Iranian writer Atti Bahadori on her second day of a hunger strik

Iranian writer Atti Bahadori on her second day of a hunger strik

Plein, The Hague, The Netherlands. Thursday 17th September, 2020. Iranian author Atti Bahadori, fled her native land of Iran to The Netherlands, during the Islamic Revolution. In 2002 her daughter was taken back to Iran by her husband. Two years later she kidnaped her daughter and returned her back to The Netherlands. Amongst her other books ‘Under the same sky’ tells that story and it became a best seller. Today, the second day of her hunger strike, she sits by her solitary tent, a few belonging and bottles of water. She had planned to spend the nights but this was denied; she was granted permission for day’s only. She sits facing the ‘Second Chamber’ of the Dutch Parliament and is hoping for a one-to-one meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and to bring to his attention and the Dutch government, the human rights atrocities being committed by the Iranian political system. Her tent is also a makeshift memorial to one of Iran’s most recent victims: Olympic champion wrestler 27-year old Navid Afkari also a political prisoner. He was executed early on the morning of Saturday 12th of September 2020. Despite a global campaign calling on Iran to revoke his execution. Navid Afkari sent messages from prison stating that he was tortured into confessing the murder by stabbing of a security guard, the incident was alleged to have occurred during an anti-government protest in 2018. The political detainees, all supporters of the ‘People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran’ or (PMOI/MEK), is a political militant organization and its sole aim is to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Irian and thereby install its own government. © Charles M Vella/Alamy Live News
