An attack took place this afternoon on the Dutch city of The Hague. The action was a co-ordinated assault by football hooligans. The initial confrontation was outside The Hague Central Station. The group had arrived on the Malieveld interrupting a peaceful planed demonstration and marching through seated family groups; in a smoke screen of coloured flares. The demonstrations initially had permission and then had it cancelled due to its size by the acting Mayor of The Hague Mayor Johan Remkes. The demonstration was to focused on the corona measures of the cabinet. At least 2000 protesters still arrived and eventually granted permission to demonstrate from 13:00 to 13:30. The initial demonstration still had hangers-on and more than a hundred were arrested, despite calls from the police to leave by 17:00. According to a police source, the hooligan element was of the worst category. Once the confrontation proper had ensued outside Central Station, they were met by a baton charge, unmounted police and canine units.
