More than 200 climate activists arrested at Schiphol private jet

Schiphol and Schiphol-East Airport, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Saturday 5th November, 2022. More than 200 Extinction Rebellion and Greenpeace climate activist were arrested on Saturday afternoon at Schiphol-East Airport, were private jets, park, taxi, take-off and land. At around 07:15, Marechussee – Holland’s security police, reported all actives were removed from the site. The activists scaled and cut through the parameter fence. According to a Greenpeace spokesperson, more than 500 protesters tried to stop the private jets from take-off. Some cycled across the site and on entry, positioned themselves under private jets, with some activist’s chained themselves to the wheel section. At around 16:00 the security police took a very heavy-handed approach, in some instance diving side and head-up and knocking the rider to the ground. The event at Schiphol Airport and Plaza, was a lot less dramatic and went without incident. Prior to staging the Schiphol sit-in, the activist walked from Schiphol Plaza to the construction site, where a new section of the airport is to be built, blocking some main roads in route. Environmental organizations and residents' groups around Schiphol want the number of flights at Schiphol to be reduced by at least half. Main news source: NOS News.
