Hundreds attend jubilant torchlight procession in Scheveningen
Scheveningen, The Hague, The Netherlands. Saturday 28th December, 2019. An estimated 300 people held a torchlight procession this evening through the streets of Scheveningen, as an alternative to the customary bonfire held on New Year’s Eve. The crowd was friendly, and presented a family like atmosphere with plenty of young children in-tow. The bonfire lit last year had exceeded the safety limit by (10 meters) and caused damage to parked cars and to property, the municipality of The Hague outlawed the event for New Year’s Eve and no permits were issued for a bonfire in Duindord or Scheveningen. It is believed that the celebration to welcome-in 2021 will be permitted; the fire brigade will light it and the height must not exceed (10 meters). The torchlight procession ended on the beach of Scheveningen. © Charles M Vella/Alamy Live News
