Easter Saturday and a ‘Silent Evening Wake’ lit by 500 candl

Russian Embassy, Andries Bickerweg. The Hague, The Netherlands. Saturday 16th April, 2022. Easter Saturday and a ‘Silent Evening Wake’ lit by 500 candles outside the Russian embassy in The Hague. Each day there is a continuous silent demonstration in front of the Russian embassy in The Hague, sometimes songs are sung. A large Ukrainian flag hangs in front all day. People from churches in The Hague gather there during their lunch break, between the hour 12.30 and 1 p.m. to commemorate the recently fallen in Ukraine. This evening, around a hundred protesters gathered outside the embassy, some with placards and a banner, and some draped in Ukraine’s national flag. They stood in silence, forming a circle around 500 lit candles, patterned in the shape of the land they left behind.
