Princess Beatrix of The Netherlands, this evening attended the Gala premiere of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. The company from the United States is celebrating its sixtieth anniversary. The show can be seen in Rotterdam from 19 to 22 September as part of its European Tour. The dance company founded in 1958 by the African-American dancer and activist Alvin Ailey (1931-1989). His goal was to preserve and celebrate the uniqueness of African-American culture and to enrich the American modern-dance heritage. The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater now performs worldwide and has a repertoire of more than 235 works by ninety different choreographers.
